COMPLICITY – A BOOK OF EMBLEMS
"Complicity" is a collaborative artist book I worked on with poet Peter Morrison. The poems and pictures follow the lunar cycle.
Emblem books consist of 3 parts of equal importance: the epigraph (inscriptio), a metaphorical visual, often a woodcut or engraving (pictura), and an explanation (subscriptio), usually a poem. The first one, Emblematum Liber was published in 1531 in Germany consigned by Andrea Alciato from Italy.
For over two centuries, the emblemata books became the most widely published matter in Europe, with over 6000 editions on all kinds of topics, sometimes containing hundreds or even thousands of emblems.
This book is part of a long ongoing tradition of emblem books.
