ODE TO TYPOGRAPHY
A number of book artists have tackled Pablo Neruda’s “Ode to Typography”, the most famous being Richard Bigus’ version from 1977.
My approach, almost 50 years later, is a bit different. My choice of typography is more playful and the book contains a gatefold featuring a multi-color reduction woodcut portrait of Neruda.
Neruda won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1971, was progressive, tight to the anti-colonialist history of Chile, an activist, one of Latin America’s most important and influential poets. He died in 1973. He left many works of poetry including a large number of odes.
