A BUDDHA SIGHTING
Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s beautiful simple poem “A Buddha Sighting” is the subject of this artist’s book interpretation. I wanted to catch the rhythm of the poem and that of the big city it plays in. The structure of the pages provides a traveling rhythm for the verse while woodcuts on the inside front and back cover hint at the hectic of the City stand in contrast to the architectural repetitive structure of the pages. The book’s “architectural structure” provides a stage for the poem to command its space.
